The sharing of bread goes back to the oldest campfires.  Many of us buy a loaf with little fiber and lots of additives in a mad dash to a grocery store, but consider the goodness of homemade bread.  With or without a bread machine, the result is worth the trouble.

     Enjoy,
     Jane Marie

Quick breads are great for busy cooks because they don't use yeast.  That means no long period of rising before baking.  Wahoo for 125 Best Quick Bread Recipes by Doona Washburn and Heather Butt!  Nancy

Cook's Illustrated magazine put together a terrific cookbook in Baking Illustrated.  I found recipes I hadn't seen elsewhere, and that always makes my family happy.  Nancy

Early in our marriage, I made Julia Child's favorite chocolate cake for my in-laws.  It was a disaster.  Possibly the fault was mine (you think?), but I can't usually blame Julia Child for my cooking calamities so I enjoy repeating the story.

In every other case, Julia Child won the respect and admiration of everyone who enjoys good food.  No kitchen library would be complete without one of her cookbooks like Baking with Julia Nancy

The best cookbooks combine entertainment with good food.  Bernard Clayton, Jr., in The Breads of France, has come up with a winner.  He explains techniques and tells fabulous stories.  Double yum.  Nancy

I love cookbooks and I devour business books.  That meant I fell upon The Doughmakers Cookbook by Bette LaPlante and Diane Culver with little cries of gladness.  There is something to learn in the authors' story and lots of good stuff within the recipe pages.  Yippee!  Nancy

Any homemade bread tastes better than the grocery store standard - including the stuff that comes in the back door in a frozen glob and is baked on the premises.  Electric Bread was one of my early bread books and I still refer to it.  Nancy

I judge a cookbook by how many little scraps of paper it contains to mark must-try recipes.  This treasure house of goodies, The Magnolia Bakery Cookbook by Jennifer Appel and Allysa Torey, isn't long, but it probably contains more markers than any other book in the house!  Nancy

Whenever I find a new cookbook, I read through all the recipes and judge the book by how of them many make my mouth water.  Pastries from the La Brea Bakery by Nancy Silverton has given me some great moments in calorie consumption.  'Nuff said.  Nancy

Pillsbury's Complete Book of Baking is a great big treasure house of goodies.  I love it - though my snickerdoodles are much better.  Nancy
Amy's Bread is a well known Manhattan bakery.   Amy and Toy Kim Dupree have put together a yummy collection of desserts in The Sweeter Side of Amy's Bread. You will gain weight!  Nancy
