Fruit Recipes Gone With The Wind pages I was going to call this old recipe Scarlett Cordial in honor of Gone With The Wind's Scarlett O'Hara and include it in Velvet Undertow. Then I realized I couldn't use another author's well-known character in my book, so, I changed it to Crimson Cordial. (But if you’re a real Windie, as I am, you can forever appreciate my original intension.) It does take 30 days to brew, so plan ahead. It's rich, it's potent, and fun for special occasions like holidays, Valentine's Day and/or anniversaries. More importantly, a little sip goes a long way.
PS Rather than toss away the strained crushed vodka laden cranberries from Crimson Cordial, I developed a recipe for Drunkard's Cranberry Compote.

You'll need:
With a food chopper or hammer, chop/crush the washed cranberries. Mix the cranberries with the sugar and vodka. Pour the mixture into a quart-sized jar with a lid. Put the mixture in a dark, cool place, leaving it undisturbed for 10 days. Stir. Leave the mixture undisturbed for another 10 days. Stir. Let sit one last time for 10 days until your 30 days are up. Strain out the chopped cranberries, and reserve them for Drunkard's Cranberry Compote. (See recipe below.) Pour the liquid into in a pretty glass bottle with a top, tie with a bow, add a label and serve for a special occasion or holiday. Sip from small glasses or pour over vanilla ice cream or angel food cake. Refrigerate remaining cordial.
You'll need:
Mix all ingredients. Place the mixture in an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for one week so flavors will meld. Makes about 3 cups. Serve it over vanilla ice cream or angel food cake.
