Crafts: Garden Bell Ornament Home: greenlightwrite.com featuring |
Crafts Books on Crafting Gardening I've made a ton of these bell ornaments over the years. They are simple, inexpensive, homemade and actually ring! Plus, they're fun for the whole family to make for Christmas or anytime of the year. Use them as ornaments, front door "janglers," wind chimes, package tie-ons or a garland. Happy

To make one bell, you'll need:
On a protected surface in a well-ventilated area, spray or paint with a brush, the outside of the clay pot. When dry, turn the pot over and spray or paint the inside. If you desire, decorate your painted pot.
When dry, spray with glitter spray or brush on glitter. Thread one end of the ribbon through the raised metal hanger built onto the top of the jingle bell. (Most jingle bells come with this hanger). Make a ribbon loop and tie the two ends together. Adjust the knot so it is positioned close to the top of the jingle bell next to the metal hanger. The jingle bell will hide the knot. Turn the clay pot upside down to resemble a bell. With the jingle bell dangling, thread the opposite loop of the ribbon up inside the clay pot and out the top (which used to be the bottom of the clay pot.) Pull the jingle bell up inside the pot as far is it will go. You may put a dab of hot glue on the top of the jingle bell to secure it in place, but the thickness of the threaded ribbon may be enough to hold it.
Garden Wind Chime Make an odd number of bells, staggering the length of the ribbons so they won't clang together and crack. Make sure there is at least two inches between bells by varying your initial lengths of ribbon by four inches. Hang your bells from one hook. Their ribbons may twist together, but that's all right because you have left space between the bells. You may also hang the bells from small hooks on a 12" piece of wood (painted and decorated if you prefer). Notch each end of the 12" length of wood. Insert an 18" length of ribbon in one end and then the other for hanging. A shepherd's hook makes a wonderful hanger for your wind chimes, too.
Garland Layout a purchased garland. Decide how far apart you want you bells placed. Make an odd number of bells and wire or tie them with ribbon bows to the garland.
