I lived in Dallas before I was married and love to get back to revisit the scenes of my past, though this is a rare occurrence.  When I lived in the Metroplex (Dallas / Ft. Worth), it seemed like the only activities were shopping and eating.  Things have improved. 

 

Sights -

• Dallas Arboretum - My favorite garden in the world.  OK, I haven't seen them all, but it's wonderful. 
• Dallas Museum of Art - A lovely building, but visit when they host a major exhibit. 
• Dallas Museum of Natural History - This museum of one of a number of minor attractions in Fair Park, the home of the Cotton Bowl.  Don't miss the March 18, 2004 Beading Diary photos of the Duval Collection Gemstone Exhibit.
• John F. Kennedy Memorial - This memorial hasn't aged well, but it's very close to the famous grassy knoll and the privately held school book depository (The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza  214-747-6660) from which President Kennedy was shot.  Parking is expensive.

• Southfork Ranch - If you remember who shot J. R., it's not too late to make a pilgrimage to the actual ranch where exteriors were filmed for Dallas, the TV show.  (Parker, TX  972-442-7800)

   

Shopping - The character and number of malls has evolved.  Grapevine Mills Mall in Grapevine is an indoor outlet mall sort of place.  I would prefer The Galleria and the little shops in the artsy neighborhood around Eatzi's (corner Oak lawn and Lemmon).

Restaurants - Dallas is packed with restaurants.  Enjoy.

• Eatzi's - A small chain to remember.  Upscale grocery with an eat-in corner.
• Rain Forest Cafe - Mediocre food in a setting to delight the kids.  A bigger chain.
• S & D Oyster Company - (2701 McKinney / 214-880-0111)  New Orleans in Texas.  Yum.
