Most people enjoy that extra hour of sunlight tacked on the end of the day because of Daylight Saving Time (DST) - even if they hate the morning darkness that goes with it. In the United States, beginning at 2:00 a.m. on the second Sunday of every March until we return to standard time on the first Sunday in November, we will have that extra hour. Time zones across the US will change at separate times. Always remember the phrase "Spring Forward, Fall Back” and you won’t be late for work or early for church. Haven't you done one or both? 2:00 a.m. was chosen for practical reasons. Most people are in bed at that time of morning, so disruption is lessened. Can you image a 5 p.m. time change and the hassle it might bring with it travel and business schedules? Used to be DST ran from the first Sunday in April until the last Sunday in October. With hope of conserving energy, President George W. Bush signed the Energy Policy Act of 2005 on August 8, 2005. The Department of Energy is conducting a study on this matter to see if the change is worthwhile. If not, Congress can reverse the act and return the United States to its original timetable. If you are in the Europe Union, all time zones change to Summer Time at the same instant beginning the first Sunday in March and ending the last Sunday in October. The magic hour for change in the EU is 1:00 a.m. Although many people refer to this subject as Daylight "SavingS Time" - me included, grammatically speaking, it is Daylight "Saving Time," without the S. Because SAVING is a verbal adjective (a participle) explaining/modifying TIME, no S is needed. As Martha BearT tells me, "It’s a better thing.”
