Have you received an invitation to a party?  Do you feel you should wear something dressier than a sweater and pair of slacks?  What to do?  What to do?

First of all, remember you were invited because the host/hostess desires your company.  They want you there - no matter how you're dressed.  That means any pressure about what to wear is self-inflicted.

Second, don't blow your budget unless this is a once in a lifetime event.

Have fun!  Think of the invitation as a chance to depart from the ordinary.  And that means sparkle.  Rhinestones, sequins, and beading will accomplish the task.  Even a sweater or blouse with a gold thread running through it, will glisten in the candlelight of celebration.  The trick is to keep the basic garment simple so your "jewels” will stand out.

Go to the back of your closet.  You might discover a shimmering shell or tunic you can wear beneath a black jacket with black slacks or a black skirt.  Finding nothing?  No problem.  It seems like every store in every town is having a sale.  But don't just check out the party dresses.  Look for evening bags, earrings, necklaces, shoes with bows or beaded buckles, and even shawls that might have a bit of glitz to them.

More ideas.  Texture might not sparkle, but it's an equally wonderful way to go glam.  Velvet, silk, organza, taffeta, and satin will all compliment your pearls and rhinestone earrings.  There's always the romantic look of a lace camisole.  Some are adorned with beadwork to add just a hint of glint and can be worn beneath a simple cardigan sweater.

Try a rhinestone hair toy (barrette, clip or comb).  Add a pretty watch or bracelet.  What about Gramma's old jewelry box?  Odds are, she has a rhinestone brooch suitable to pin a chiffon scarf on the shoulder or at the neck.  Consider ropes of pearls for a luxurious look.

Jazz up your makeup.  If you usually wear a light lipstick, go a shade darker.  If you always wear a dark color, go lighter, but don't forget to use lip-gloss for more sparkle.  Face and body powder are available to make you shimmer all over.

Don't neglect fragrance.  Pick up a small bottle of something new, a scent you've never worn before worn that catches your fancy.  If it intrigues you, it will intrigue him.

Parties are a time to have fun, and part of the fun is experimenting with a special look.  Romance and creativity are every woman's birthright.
