She was kind enough to share her family's GWTW story, which I know you'll love as much as we do. And don't forget to visit In Mama's Kitchen for more heartwarming stories as well as great recipes. Always, |
My mother came from a large Irish family that grew into their adulthood in the late 30's. Her father was a policeman who had steady work, but not a lot of money in those tumultuous times. Like many others of that decade, everyone worshipped film stars. The older sister, a Jean Harlow platinum blond with incredible skin and wild turquoise eyes, was a showstopper while my mom was a quieter beauty with red hair. The Jean Harlow blonde had a dramatic flair and a large personality. She worked as an extra in the movie studios in Queens (I think), New York. My mother, who is on the site [In Mama's Kitchen] holding the most beautiful, adorable baby, (she's Mary Merz), was tested for the part of Scarlett. The studio took pictures, which must have been gorgeous because my mother, now 87, gets angry when she tells me that her older sister took the photos and lost them!
