One gloriously sunny spring day, Martha Bear® and her dear friend, Airborne, a grasshopper of few words, were sitting in the shade of the Pine Tree Place discussing their holiday shopping.  Why, you might reasonably ask, would a bear and a hopper be discussing gift buying when the actual need for a gift was at least eight months away?  That's because Martha Bear® was raised by Jane Marie, notorious for her skill at seeking out sales, and this practice had rubbed off on the large white bear.

"I believe I'll go to Teddy Cares Grocery as soon as I finish this glass of Beary Juice.  I read in the paper that Wink E Bear, the proprietor, and our excellent friend of good character, is selling Buy 1, Get 2 Free boxes of Critter Crunchies.  I want to do all I can to support his business, besides getting a deal in the process."

"Certainly," nodded Airborne as he began stretching his wings for exercise while they conversed. 

The two friends talked on about this sale and that sale and what was for sale and on sale all round Amelia Island. 

"Oh, and which kind of cheese is the best price this week, Martha Bear®?  You know how cheese greases my knee joints.  I'm almost out."

When she didn't answer, the hopper stopped his calisthenics to peer into her face.  "Martha Bear®?"

She replied, unaware that her thoughts had drifted into the summersault world of a new idea.  "I didn't mean to be rude, Airborne, but I have just had a brainstorm.  Its implications are staggering!"

Startled at the announcement and always interested in staggering implications, the little insect leapt from Martha Bear's shoulder to the snout of her nose.  Bending over to read her lips, albeit upside down, he looked and listened attentively because whenever bears had brainstorms, it usually meant adventures followed in one fashion or another.

"What is it, Martha Bear®? Tell me, do."

She began slowly, "I've lived my whole life with Jane Marie who has taught me her shopping skills.  She is the queen of her generation on the subject, well, next to Nancy, that is.  And because our family motto is No Space Unfilled, I've suddenly taken an interest in retail, but not just any retail.  No, retail that I think bears as well as humans who enjoy Jane Marie's gracious kind of living would enjoy.  Ah, again, but not just any gracious living kind of retail.  No, bargain retail - good deals at good prices."

"Yes, that certainly would follow," agreed Airborne who found it necessary to stand up straight because he was becoming dizzy due to the blood rushing to his tiny head.

"To that end, I shall begin a business and call it ... hmm, call it Martha Bear's Bargains or maybe

General Store & Online Emporium

"Yes, that's it!   We'll grow to offer the best bargains to be found on the Internet.  Today, all we  need is a general manager.  Oh, and of course, we have to tell Jane Marie and Nancy of our latest plan, because, after all, Martha Bear's Bargains will be a better thing!  Now let's think."

And so, bear and bug began to strategize of things to come.
