Decorating with Plates

I've been collecting plates for years from department store and yard sales, closeout stores and as travel souvenirs. Because there are so many styles, there is a plate collection out there for any type of decor.

The rules are simple;

Choose any color and style you like.
Don't worry about matching anything when you have a bargain in hand - if you like it, you will probably find a place for it in your home or the home of a friend.

Gift plates that don't suit your style can and should be regifted - you may want to tell the original doner you loved their present so much you had to find it the perfect home outside your own.
Do not use plates labeled "decorative use only" for food service - these plates contain harmful lead.
Group plates together that seem to go together - you can always move them later.
Display your plates on cheap wire plate hangers or on easels.

If you hang plates on the wall, make sure to use sturdy nails, bent upward to lessen the likelihood of bouncing to the floor. Better yet, ask the experts at your local hardware store for advice on proper hanging hardware.

Make sure wall plates are level. A little imbalance can throw off your display.
