If you've just received a bouquet of flowers from your special someone, or you have beautiful roses in your garden, let them live forever as potpourri.

As long as the roses are completely dry, this is the simplest craft in the world.  Try it, it's fun!

   Enjoy,
   Jane Marie

PS  Nancy preserved her wedding bouquet this way.  She's freshened the scent over the years by adding more rose oil.

Potpourri Directions

You'll need:

  • Quart decanter that seals tightly so your rose potpourri can "ripen."

  • 1 cup dried roses or rose petals, mixed or all the same variety  [Roses air dry very nicely.  Hang them upside down in a cool, dry place.]

  • 1 cup dried flowers in a complimentary color  [Some flowers dry better than others - don't mix varieties the first time you try this in case some of the flowers you've chosen mildew.]

  • 1/4 cup broken cinnamon sticks

  • 1/4 cup dried rosemary leaves

  • 1/4 cup dried bay leaves

  • 2 to 3 tablespoon orrisroot (chips or ground)  [This is a fixative, which retains the fragrance.  It is available at your local craft store or grocery.]

  • 8 drops of rose oil

Toss all the ingredients and place them in the jar.  Seal the jar.

Shake the jar every day for two weeks so the scent can "brew."

Display your potpourri in dishes scattered around your house to delicately scent the air.
