October 12, 2006: Teddy O™ ineligible for Capital One 2006 Mascot Challenge Oklahoma City, OK/October 12, 2006 … With a stunning double whammy, teddy bear and self described "Mascot to the World," Teddy O™, has been rejected by two major entities, the state of Oklahoma and Capital One. In the summer of 2005, formal application was made to the Oklahoma State Centennial Commission asking that Teddy O™ be named Official Unofficial Oklahoma Statehood Centennial Spokesbear / Mascot. The lack of a timely formal response prompted a phone call to the commission, which said the appointment was unlikely. The commission has yet to comment further. Capital One's 2006 Mascot Challenge also dismissed Teddy by limiting itself to college mascots. With tears in his eyes, Teddy O™ said, "I understand that rules are rules. I wish the OU Sooner Mascot the best in the Mascot Challenge, and I love living in Oklahoma. However, I bow my head in sorrow as my hopes fade for a politely worded letter or an email from either the commision or Cap One. No wonder Don Marquis [whoever he is] said, 'Every cloud has a silver lining, but it is sometimes difficult to get to the mint.'" Teddy O™ has gallantly vowed to go on with his work promoting literacy at RascallyReaders.com. July 6, 2005: Press release: Oklahoma City, OK/July 6, 2005 … California-based LuxeJewels.com, which provides kits for jewelry making, is now open for business in Oklahoma at a location of your choice. Luxe Jewels has just signed its first Oklahoma consultant. The Luxe Consultant brings tools and expertise to classrooms, churches and homes for fun and education. Beginning beaders preorder quality Luxe Jewels’ kits from the company website, attend a Luxe event and go home with a new skill and a piece of jewelry to treasure. When Oklahoma writer Nancy Kamp considered California-based LuxeJewels.com as the subject for an article, she never thought about joining their company. But research revealed a fresh and original business model, teaching others to make jewelry. Kamp, who sells her own jewelry creations at VeryShinyObjects.com and teaches business courses at Francis Tuttle Technical School, loved the easy-to-make but stylish Luxe designs of Hollywood’s jewelry designer to the stars, Maya Brenner. However, Luxe’s support of Kamp’s own artisan-made jewelry sealed the deal. She said, “Luxe Jewels is a company that encourages flexibility and innovation. I get to make jewelry, I get to write about jewelry and I get to teach jewelry making — all with their blessing. Who wouldn’t join their team?” Luxe Jewels was founded in October 2004 by Jessica Herrin, cofounder of WeddingChannel.com. In Herrin’s words, "This isn't your mother’s Tupperware™ party. Well, SpokesBear. Fernandina Beach, FL/October 3, 2002 … Martha Bear, created by Fernandina Beach resident Jane Marie Malcolm, has been named the official spokesbear for GraciousJaneMarie.com and its parent company, Oklahoma-based greenlightWRITE.com. Martha is being featured in photos to promote various sections of the 700 page website including cooking, gardening, crafts, travel, romance and more. Martha was chosen over the Oklahoma candidate, Bear with No Name, because she represents the website’s motto of Celebrate HEART & HOME. Jane Marie, who uses her pen name exclusively, is the author of numerous articles for the website and other publications as well as a forthcoming series of novels set in historic Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island. GraciousJaneMarie.com was begun by Jane Marie and her sister, business writer Nancy Kamp of Oklahoma City, as part of a showcase for the sisters’ writing talents.
