I'm pretty sure I couldn't write a novel to save my life, but if I ever attempt it, I know I will begin with a great title like Christopher Buckley's Florence of Arabia.  I mean, once you've got a killer title, the whole book probably writes itself, right?

Then again, it may take more wit and comic genius than I could summon up.  We'll never know about me, but Buckley's readers will either hail him as a genius or issue a fatwa so he can be stoned.

The thing is, Florence of Arabia isn't anti-Islam (some of the finest people I know are devout Muslims), but rather anti-rabid fundamentalist,  anti-sexist and anti-hypocrite.   And who like those guys anyway?  Nancy

Mini Book Review List

If you've glanced at more than three of these mini-reviews, you know I'm mad about mysteries.  If you've got a similar proclivity, you'll want to know about Iain Pears series starring the Italian art recovery squad. (There must really be one, right?)

The heroine is stylish and knowledgeable, and the books are good.  Very good.  Start with The Raphael Affair.  Nancy

Dare to go Bear

There are tons of novels about King Arthur floating around, and a different twist is much appreciated by those of us who wallow in this pseudo-time.

Molly Cochrane and Warren Murphy brought Arthur into the here and now with The Forever King and The Broken Sword.

I'm standing by for volume three (now available), and I suggest you join the queue.  Nancy

series

I think of Australia in connection with a lot of things, but detective stores was never one of them until I discovered Kerry Greenwood's Phryne Fisher series.

Miss Fisher is a no nonsense, take charge flapper whose world just demands reader loyalty.  Hooray, Phyrne!  [fry knee]   Nancy
