Many dream of living in Paris.  But the reality of finding a copy shop or nursing a baby in a French park is never part of the fantasy because fantasy doesn't include everyday life.  Fortunately, Adam Gopnik tells it like it is and takes us all on his family adventure in Paris to the Moon.  Guidebooks are great, but Gopnik writes about life.

If you do want a hint of fantasy in France, watch Amélie Even with subtitles, it's marvelous.  Nancy

Mini Book Review List

Somehow, I’ve missed Simon Brett’s novels for years.  If you haven’t discovered this (thankfully) prolific author yet, I strongly urge you to grab a volume from one of his series and enjoy.  I began with The Body on the Beach, which starts off the Fethering Mysteries.

I also recommend the Charles Paris series - though a seedier sleuth hasn't caught my notice since Lovejoy.  A lot of Brett's novel's are out of print so I've put a link to a four volume collection below.

Brett, by the way, is the author of A Shock to the System, which became a black comedy starring Michael Caine.  Nancy
