The gift of prophecy didn't do Cassandra any good during the Trojan War, but it certainly seems like more of a blessing than a curse.  Unfortunately, I have never received any gifts whatsoever from Apollo, so I can only judge this based on my sincere longing to chose winning lottery numbers and Paul Halpern's The Pursuit of Destiny: A History of Prediction.

Halpern doesn't stop with a discussion of our innate desire to learn if good fortune awaits us.  He brings in the sciences and the mysteries of the universe.  Since he says, "Predictability is a bridge resting on solid pillars," meaning mathematics and randomness, I won't get my hopes as far as scoring a lottery coup.  I will, however, humbly suggest Halpern's book.  It's readable and interesting - and that's simple fact.  Nancy

PS  OK, there's more.  This book doesn't just contain a useful approach to productivity.  It's also nicely full of excellent quotations, and you must have already realized that I'm a sucker for a good quote.
