You won't find a better mystery series than Erin Hart's.  You get love, death, history and music as the main character studies human remains unearthed in Irish bogs while struggling with her sister's murder.  Begin with Haunted Ground.  Now.  Nancy

Murder in Mykonos, by Jeffrey Siger, is a good read.  It's set on a gorgeous Greek island, features a wronged detective and has a heck of a twisty plot.  What more do you want?  Nancy

Lipstick Jihad, by Azadeh Moaveni, is "a Memoir of Growing Up Iranian in America and American in Iran."

It's interesting reading and like any insider story - if being in the middle of two worlds can really make you an insider - brings us a closer look the conflict of Iran versus the West.   Nancy

One of the wittiest mysteries to grace a book shelf comes straight from the pen of an Irish monk, Andrew Nugent of the Order of St. Benedict.

If Brother Andrew continues to produce novels like The Four Courts Murder, I shall be forced to acclaim the supremacy of Ireland in still another literary field.  And won't that be a great day for the Irish?  Nancy

If you only read the Proclamation, you'll know the beauty of the opening words to the official statement behind the Easter Rebellion that began the final struggle for Irish independence from Britain.  But you won't know nearly enough about the myth and magic of Irish history.  For that you must read Frank Delaney's novel Ireland You'll find yourself curling up to follow the tales your grandmother from County Waterford would have told you if only she'd had the chance.  Nancy

I'm not a big fan of Indian food (Sorry, Mrs. K.), but everything else about the country - romance, history, desperate beauty and terrible sadness - calls to me, so when I stumble on a vivid read from an Indian author, I'm swept away.

My latest find is a family saga, The House of Blue Mangoes by David Davidar.  This novel is both well-written and illuminating.  A great combination.  Nancy

PS  No luck in my investigation of the Breast Wars (as mentioned in the book) online.  (You can imagine what kind of sites I came up with.)  If this really happened as outlined by Davidar in his book, then %$@^ to all the men involved.  Fortunately, Karma happens.

If you haven't discovered Thomas Perry, don't wait any longer.  This guy is good, very good.  Start with Death Benefits, pick up The Butcher's Boy or grab anything else the man has written.  He's one of the best contemporary adventure novelists I've ever read. Nancy

Getting inside the head of Saddam Hussein wasn't easy, but Dr. Khidhir Hamza lived to tell about it in Saddam's Bombmaker, which he co-wrote with Jeff Stein.  This is firsthand history that chills the soul. Reading the book in light of the end of Saddam's regime, Hamza's book gives one a lot to think about.  Nancy

I wasn't quite sure if I wanted to write a mini-review about Dicey Deere's Irish mystery series, but since I keep reading the books I must like them - despite the muddle of characters that pops in and out of each story.

Bottom line: plots are good, setting is delightful and those characters are engaging.  And what's my problem?  I'm honestly not sure, so I believe I'll read another six or eight volumes and then amend this review.

In the meantime, feel free to let me know your thoughts on the series.  Begin with The Irish Cottage Murder Nancy

The Islands of Italy, by Barbara Grizzuti Harrison, took me away from 105° F in Oklahoma to the places where we should be visiting / living.  Then I picked up Giuliano Bugialli's book Bugialli's Italy, found his recipe for tortiglioni and started to pack.  Ciao, baby.  Nancy
